The Naples sun was really showing off on this Wednesday night! We had the perfect golden light reflecting off the crystal blue water and shining onto this beautiful mama, as if she wasn’t already glowing enough on her own. I love that she chose to do a combined family and maternity session – honoring her sweet family as it currently is, and all of the memories they have made together, while also documenting the excitement and anticipation of another little one to love on and raise up. I may be a little biased, but I truly can’t think of a better place for a maternity session than the beautiful Naples Beach.
It is always such an honor when I am asked to capture memories like these for growing families. Some of this precious family’s last moments as a party of 3 here at Naples Beach were frozen in time through my camera lens, and that is not a responsibility that I take lightly. Pregnancy is an incredible miracle, but it is exhausting and draining. It empowers you, yet leaves you feeling vulnerable and insecure in your new body. It is a season that I know every mama wants to document deep down, but is hesitant to for a variety of valid reasons. But when you book a maternity session with me, my top priority is to help you look and feel beautiful! You are so many months into growing another human, which makes you an absolute super hero and you deserve maternity photos that make you feel beautiful and strong.
Along with posing and lighting (I got you on those, girl!), your outfit choice will play a huge role in feeling like a million bucks for your maternity session. Here are my top three tips for choosing your maternity outfit, and you can even click on the photos below for some photographer approved options!
2. Muted colors and neutrals are the way to go. Did you know if you wear a bright colored dress, the sun will reflect that color onto your spouse and kids? The sun at Naples Beach is beautiful, but she is mighty and loves to reflect all over the place. One of my biggest priorities when shooting and editing your photos is honoring your true skin tone, but if we have bright red or neon green projecting onto your loved ones, that makes my job a little more difficult. I am all about color, don’t get me wrong! But if you have a go-to color that you love to wear and feel confident in, I highly suggest choosing a muted version to keep everyone looking like their truest self in your photos. You could even opt for a pink or blue dress depending on the gender – this is a maternity session, after all!
3. Pick something easy! If you constantly have to tug at your sleeves, or adjust your bra so that it isn’t showing, you may want to opt for something a little lower maintenance. The way that I pose during my combined family and maternity photo sessions involves a lot of movement and candid moments, and stopping mid tickle fight to ask you to fix something definitely takes away from the authenticity of the photos. If you have your heart set on a certain outfit that requires a little extra attention to detail, I highly suggest adding 15-30 minutes on to your session to incorporate an outfit change for some solo shots! This way I can fully focus on you and your stunning fit, and we can capture the maternity photos of your dreams.
